Meet The Team

The Animal Health Centre employs a small family sized team of staff to meet all your needs. We have three qualified veterinary surgeons supported by qualified nurses, student veterinary nurses, a pet care assistant and reception staff. As we are a small team you and your pet will get to know us well over the course of your pet’s lifetime.

Deborah Komianos

dkDeborah joined the practice in 2008 as the Clinical Director. She qualified from The Royal Dick at Edinburgh University in 2001 and has spent the last 10 years as a small animal vet. Her special interests include feline behaviour and small animal surgery. She recently gained her Certificate in Veterinary Business and Professional Studies and is dedicated to improving the practice and developing the staff.

Deborah grew up in South Wales where she now lives with her husband and three cats. In her personal time she can be found dancing salsa and reading. Deborah says, “It is a privilege to be trusted with caring for people's pets”.

Karin Gasser

kgKarin graduated in 2007 from the University of Vienna. Here, she worked for 2 years and completed her pHD in Ophthalmology. Karin joined the team in September 2010. She has special interests in Ophthalmology and Dermatology and works very hard to care for her patients. She is always early for everything!

Karin enjoys visiting new places, meeting new people and going for walks in the sun. She would love to own a pet cat.

Corina Scheul

corinaCorina qualified in Romania in 2008 and spent the last 3 years managing the veterinary care and welfare of dairy farms in Romania.

She has a special interest in preventative medicine, and believes that "prevention is better than cure"! She loves working here and enjoys the challenge of each new day. Corina is totally dedicated to her patients and enjoys getting to know their owners.

She would love to move her cat, Misha, and three dogs to the UK. In her free time she likes to paint cats, make cat jewellery, swim, hike and dance. She also spoils us all with her delicious home cooking.

Jay Forrest

jfJay has been our Head Nurse since July 2010. She has 14 years of experience as a Veterinary Nurse, and has worked in practice in the UK and New Zealand. She heads up our nursing clinics and enjoys spending time with clients and their pets. Currently, she is busy with plans for opening our Boverton branch for operating.

Jay passed her Advanced Award in Feline friendly nursing in 2011 and has worked hard towards making our feline patients feel comfortable in the practice. She has two cats and a horse and loves SCUBA diving.

Heather Thorne

htHeather has been working at the Animal Health Centre since 2008. She completed her training here and is now a fully qualified veterinary nurse. She runs our popular 'Puppy Parties' and handles pet insurance claims on top of her nursing duties. She is a natural organiser!

She has 2 crazy cats, Gorgeous and Tigger, and one very old, very handsome dog, Ben. In her spare time Heather is a not-so-secret shopaholic and spends her free time with her family.

Kate Connelly

kcKate is a student veterinary nurse who has worked at the practice since 2008. She is in her final year of training. Kate has a healthy obsession with cleanliness and her favourite aspect of practice is caring for hospital patients.

She lives in Cardiff with her husband and Dexter the cat! Kate shares two horses and spends most of her time outside work riding and studying!

Charlie Fyfe
